Mosseater, Moonwatcher

Mosseater, Moonwatcher—

I am enticed and possessed by your silver ribbon.

I need you. You have contributed to my body of work.

The concept of infinite largeness terrifies me.

Information and space, for example, and you are my tower, my pillar.

I climb you to tame the vastness.

I eat you and stay trim, beautiful and fed, a good little animal.

My prayer is that I am fixed to my dream-post.

Moon glow, suspend my watch and protect me

From the harsh and disorienting beams of morning.

Each one is an antagonist.

Only the evening cicadas and the glowing bright orange rose bushes are real.

Let me sleep or be a petal, a thistle,

The shrill hum of wings–

If I should wake before I die.
